Most issues can be sorted in a couple of minutes. Start here.
My app says the system is offline - is it broken?
Almost always it's just the Wi-Fi link, not the system. Your panels and/or battery keep working without the internet - you just can't see the data.
Common causes: a new modem or router, a changed Wi-Fi password, the modem being switched off, or a weak signal out to the inverter. See the Reconnect Wi-Fi tab for step-by-step instructions.
Why is my system producing less than usual?
- Weather and season - cloudy days and short winter days can drop output by more than half. This is normal.
- Shading - trees grow, and new buildings or antennas can shade panels.
- Dirty panels - dust, bird droppings, pollen and ash all cut output. See WattGuard panel cleaning.
- A fault - if output is near zero on a sunny day, check the inverter for a red light or error code and give us a call.
The inverter has a red light or error code
Take a photo of the screen or lights and note the time it happened. Some faults clear on their own (e.g. a grid voltage blip). If it's still showing after an hour, or keeps coming back, call or email us the photo and we'll diagnose it - often remotely.
Please don't open the inverter or battery, and don't switch isolators on and off repeatedly.
Will I have power during a blackout?
Only if your system was installed with backup (a backup gateway or backup circuits). If it was, your backed-up circuits will keep running from the battery.
Without backup, the system automatically shuts down when the grid goes down - this is a legal safety requirement so line workers aren't put at risk. It switches back on by itself when the power returns. Not sure what you have? Ask us.
Why isn't my battery charging or discharging how I expected?
- On cloudy days there may not be enough spare solar to charge it.
- Batteries keep a small reserve so they can protect themselves - they won't drain to 0%.
- If your plan has a free or cheap power window, the battery may be set to charge from the grid then.
- Mode settings (self-use, time-of-use, backup) change the behaviour. If you think the settings aren't right for your plan, call us and we'll check them.
My power bill didn't drop as much as I expected
Feed-in tariffs (what you're paid for exporting) are much lower than what you pay for grid power, so the biggest savings come from using your solar - run the dishwasher, washing machine, pool pump or hot water during the day.
Also check your retailer plan suits your setup - solar, battery or both. See Get the most out of it for the habits that matter most, or a WattGuard energy assessment for a proper review of your bills and tariff.
Do I need to clean my panels?
Rain does a fair job, but panels near farms, gravel roads, the coast, trees or birds can build up grime that cuts output. Please don't get on the roof yourself. See WattGuard for cleaning and health checks.
Can I add more battery later?
Usually yes - most modular batteries can have extra modules added, and it's often a quick job. See Add to your system and we'll check what your system can take and quote it.
Who do I call - Eureka or WattGuard?
Eureka if something's wrong: faults, error codes, warranty claims, Wi-Fi and app help, or adding a battery or EV charger. Warranty work is free.
WattGuard to keep it right: yearly solar and battery inspections, panel cleaning and monitoring plans. WattGuard is a separate business run by the same electricians, and Eureka customers get a discount.
What warranties do I have?
Your paperwork has the exact details, but typically: 10 years on our workmanship, 10 years on the inverter and battery, and 25 years on panels and mounting - whichever of those your system has. If anything goes wrong, contact us first - we'll deal with the manufacturer for you.
One thing to know: some manufacturers require proof of regular servicing to honour their product warranty. WattGuard records every inspection and clean against your system so that history is there if you ever need it.
How do I shut the system down safely?
Follow the shutdown procedure on the sign installed at your switchboard and inverter - the order of switches matters. Only do this in an emergency or when asked by us.
I'm moving house / selling - what do I do?
Let us know. We can help transfer monitoring access to the new owner, and the warranties stay with the system.
No matches - try another word, or call us.
Which brand is your inverter?
It's on the front of the inverter or battery. Not sure? Check your install paperwork.
Tips if it won't connect
- Most inverter Wi-Fi only works on 2.4GHz. If your modem combines 2.4 and 5GHz under one name, try turning on a separate 2.4GHz network.
- Inverter in the garage or on an outside wall? The signal may be too weak - a Wi-Fi extender nearby usually fixes it.
- Avoid special characters in the Wi-Fi password if you can.
- Still stuck after 2 tries? Call us - we can often sort it over the phone.
Watching your system
Your monitoring app shows what your home is using and what's going to and from the grid - plus what your panels are making if you have solar, and your battery level if you have a battery.
What to look for
- Production on sunny days that's suddenly much lower than the same time last week
- The battery not charging on sunny days
- Fault or alarm notifications
- Big unexpected jumps in grid usage
Forgotten your login? Use "forgot password" in the app, or contact us - we can resend the invite.
Can't find your model? Email us the model number from the label and we'll send the manual.
Report a fault
A photo of the inverter screen or lights helps a lot - email it to us after you send this.
Get the most out of it
The system does the hard work. A few small habits make a big difference to the bill.
The one rule that matters
Power you make and use yourself is worth 4-10 times more than power you export. Feed-in tariffs are only a few cents, so the savings come from using your own solar, not from selling it.
Battery only? Your rule is different: charge when power is free or cheap, and use it when it's expensive. See the free power window below.
Best times to run things
Got a battery? It'll soak up any solar you don't use during the day and cover the evening. The habits above still help - the less the battery has to cover, the more it stretches.
Free power hours
From 1 October 2026, Victorian retailers must offer at least three hours of free power a day, typically around 11am-2pm. Check your plan - the window and the rules vary between retailers.
- Set the battery to charge from the grid during the window - we can set this up for you if it isn't already
- Run big loads in the window too: hot water, pool pump, EV, dryer
- In winter this fills the gap on grey days when solar can't
Add to your system
Most systems we install are built to grow. These are the add-ons customers ask for most.
Add a battery
Solar only? A battery stores your spare daytime power for the evening instead of exporting it for cents, and can charge from the free power window in winter. Add backup and your essential circuits keep running in a blackout.
The federal battery rebate still applies but has been reduced for larger systems since 1 May 2026 - we'll check what you're eligible for.
More battery storage
Already have a modular battery? Extra modules usually bolt on in about an hour and don't need any changes to the inverter. Handy if you've added an EV, a pool or heating since the install.
EV charger
A proper 7kW wall charger fills an EV 3-4 times faster than a power point and can be set to charge from solar only. We'll check your switchboard capacity and recommend a charger that talks to your inverter brand.
Extra panels
If you've got roof space and your inverter has headroom, adding panels is often the cheapest way to lift output. If the inverter is already maxed out, we'll give you the honest numbers on whether an upgrade stacks up.
Hot water diverter or heat pump
Hot water is one of the biggest loads in the house. A diverter sends spare solar into your existing tank; a heat pump cuts the energy needed by around two-thirds. Both pair well with solar and there are Victorian rebates for heat pumps.

Keep it healthy with WattGuard
Yearly inspections, panel cleaning and remote monitoring for solar, batteries or both - so problems get caught early, not when the bill arrives.
It's run by the same licensed electricians as Eureka, but it's an independent inspection and maintenance service that looks after solar and battery systems from any installer - not just ours.
We started it because after-sales care is where our industry so often falls short. Too many homeowners are left on their own once the installer drives away, wondering whether their system is doing what it should. Whether you went with solar, a battery or both, you made a smart decision to invest - WattGuard exists so you can keep feeling good about it, year after year.
Warranty and fault repairs on your Eureka system still go through Eureka at no charge.
Care Plans
- We watch it for you - your system is monitored and WattGuard is alerted if production drops or a fault appears
- Yearly on-site inspection - electrical safety testing, connectors, isolators and mounting for solar; health, settings and ventilation checks for batteries
- Written report each visit, with photos and anything that needs attention
- Your service history, kept on file - every inspection and clean is recorded against your system. Some manufacturers require proof of regular servicing to honour a product warranty, so if you ever need to make a claim, the paperwork is already done
- Anything under warranty found during an inspection goes straight to Eureka to fix for free
